A church is a family, and like any other family, we have different ways in which you can get involved. We have a number of different opportunities for you to join in and share in our ministry. Our Parish is also blessed to have so many young and energetic members. We have opened our eyes to see that our children really are our future and we want to provide them with the lessons and teachings of Jesus Christ. Through our youth ministries and activities we show them that learning about God can be fun and exciting.
AdultsWe have an adult Sunday School class every Sunday before worship at Messiah. All who are able are welcome to come join us in hearing God's word and learning from his lessons.
ChoirWe are blessed to have many talented individuals as a part of our Parish. Many of those talents are displayed every Sunday when our Senior Choir provides a beautiful and harmonious anthem for the congregation.
Bible StudiesOnce every month, members of the parish get together outside of the church setting to talk about God and his message to us all. We welcome any who would like to join us in this lighthearted and spirited discussion of how God's word effects us all.
Leadership PositionsIf you are interested in getting involved in the Parish, there are many opportunities for you. Volunteers are needed for:
Youth are provided instruction in the basics of faith and discipleship through educational, servant-based, and fellowship oriented activities. The classes take about three years to complete and is designed for youth in grades 7-9.
The first two years are held in a classroom type setting with one year of emphasis on Biblical learning key Old and New Testament stories) and one year of emphasis on Lutheran Small Catechism Practices (the Apostle's Creed, Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments, Sacraments, etc).
The third year is an independent service based year centered around service projects performed by the youth within the congregation and community.
First Communion ClassAt the parent's decision and request, youth are provided instruction and information about the key elements and reasons behind Holy Communion. The instruction takes place in three fun and activity structured learning sessions.
Junior ChiorA youthful singing group made up of youngsters in grades 1-6. Practices are generally held on Wednesday afternoons through the fall and during the late Lenten and Easter season.
Summer Church CampsThe youth of our congregation are welcome to join youth from other congregations in fun filled, christian based summer camps. The camps are held at Camp Sequanota in Boswell, PA at various times throught the summer. For more information go to www.sequanota.com.
Vacation Bible SchoolEvery summer for one week, the youth of the Parish, and surrounding community gather to learn how God's word is seen in everything around us. The week long Vacation Bible School (VBS) is held during the summer months and has a different theme each year. Check back for more information on this year's VBS.
Youth GroupOur Youth Group is held as a Joint Parish function in conjunction with other congregations. Some activities include: annual faith based retreats such as Snow Camp, Jr. High and Sr. High Synod Events, National Youth Gatherings, and other activities.
We also have an Elementary Youth Group for youth in grades 1-5 and is held on Wednesday afternoons after Jr. Choir rehearsal.
