Missionary Support
The Holiday season is soon upon us and as usual, we will reach into our pockets not only for ourselves but to remember others with grateful giving. To be sure, times are tight and so we might not be able to give as much as we would like this Christmas season, but hopefully we can still find room to help others.
As we think of what to gift others this year, don’t forget our missionaries serving Christ across the world.
Every Day is a Chance to Give Thanks
And every can is a way to give thanks. During the month of November, you are invited to bring canned goods to help fill our cupboard or boxes so that we can fill the cupboards of needy families throughout Somerset County. At the end of the month, we will take those cans to the Somerset Food Pantry.
Confirmation Calendar:
Today – TAKE A SABBATH – No Class
Next Sunday: 5pm- Confirmation @ M
Come We Thankful People – Joint Thanksgiving Eve Service
On Wednesday, November 26th, the Lavansville-Bakersville Lutheran Parish and the New Centerville Lutheran Parish are holding a joint Thanksgiving Eve Worship. The service will be held at Messiah at 7pm.
There will be a Thank Offering as part of our worship. So please bring canned food or dry goods with you that evening. The Offering will be given to the Somerset Food Pantry.
CHRISTMAS EVE PRE-SERVICE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are planning to have 10-15 minutes of pre-service music/poems before the 7:30pm Christmas Eve service at Messiah. If you are interested in participating, please sign below and list what you will be doing. We encourage people from all 3 congregations to participate in this event. Please place the form in the offering plate. Last day to sign up is November 30th, 2008.
Thank you, Ann Sechler, Music Coordinator Messiah
Prayer List Update:
Since the prayer list is getting so long, after discussion with Joint
Council and with their approval, we are reinstituting our three weeks
and then off policy. Any new names submitted will be put on the prayer
bulletin prayer list for three weeks and then removed.
If you wish someone to stay on the prayer list longer,
we will add them to a long-term prayer list. This long-term prayer list will be published
in the newsletter and in the first Sunday bulletin of each month. This
way, we can be reminded to continue to pray for them but not have to print
them in the bulletin every week. In Christ’s name.
Assisted Hearing Devices
For
those who would like to hear our worship service a little clearer or
louder, Messiah Lutheran now has available several assisted hearing
devices for use during late worship. For those who haven’t
already done so, if you are interested in using one, please check with
Frank Illar or another council member prior to worship so we can get
you set up with the device. Also, please note, we have worked
out all of the feedback problems and the devices are working loud and
clearly. Thank
you to Larry LaVigne and Frank Illar for getting this system up and function.
